A Place at The Table at Sunnyvale Community Services Monday August 23

I had such a good time at this event!

HOBA came by to help Sunnyvale Community Services sort goods and pack them into paper bags. It was major labor!

We formed an assembly line and everyone put a different item into the bag. Others helped refill the supplies, break down boxes, and I took the filled bags and piled them up.

We packed hundreds of bags!

I'm left with a sore back, fingers, and some blisters but it was well worth it for a good… Continue

BEFRIEND A FAMILY at the Ronald McDonald House 7.13.10 in Palo Alto

Today was my first time volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House and I had such a great time! It was with such an intimate group of 8 of us and everyone had something to do.

Volunteers today provide, cook, and serve a meal to families of children with life-threatening illnesses. Children travel great distances to access the quality care available in the Bay Area; Ronald McDonald House provides low-cost, temporary residences for their families.

South Bay Book Club: Tracy Kidder's Mountains Beyond Mountains

This was my first book club meeting because I've never been in one and had so much fun! The group was very intimate being that there were only 3 of us but we were able to discuss the book, how affected it us, and what we took from it. Unfortunately I did not finish the book- FAIL. But the group was still very welcoming and I am determined to finish it now with the new perspectives I got from the group members. It was a high level conversation about the book which was really mentally rewarding… Continue

Second Harvest Food Bank

I thought the shift that I had from 6 to 8pm was pretty short but little did I realize that I would get a major workout! It was soo much fun though!

There were about 40 volunteers sorting cans. There was large industrial sized bins filled with mac n cheese, pasta, meal in a can, fruits, vegetables, etc and volunteers were responsible for separating them- taking out items that didn't have labels because clients need nutritional facts in case anyone is allergic- packing them into card… Continue

A PLACE AT THE TABLE with InnVision Peninsula Programs on 01/24/2010 Review

This is a great organization!

I've always wanted to help out whenever I can but I am always fearing being over committed. In this case you never have to!

You go to their website- register for free and look for a project in your area, sign up, and then show up!

There are plenty of events but they do fill up quick. Check back often though because if people can't make it they will remove themselves from the event.

Today I went to my first event and it… Continue
