Hey HOBA volunteers! What is your favorite HOBA project and why?

I love Martin de Porres Soup Kitchen in S.F. because you work with a dedicated team of volunteers to make delicious food for people in need! The clients at MDP appreciate the food and the experience is really meaningful!

I love KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program), a nation-wide educational program where 90% of the students at KIPP are the first in their families to attend college.

My first KIPP experience was at East Palo Alto's Heartwood Academy. From repainting the school multipurpose room to allow for an educational-themed background to building bookshelves to create a formal school library, what our team of 60 was able to accomplish in a day was astonishing. We even repainted the boys and girls restrooms.

If you enjoy building, sign up for a KIPP activity!

I love outdoor gardening/cleanup projects because I can volunteer with my little children ages 8 and 4. "Save the Bay" project in south bay is one of my favorites. You get a great workout by pulling out weeds(I didnt know that fennel was a weed there!) plus I get to restore California native plants for three full hours.

Check out this project and others like Guadalupe Rose Garden online at hoba.org
There are way TOO many projects to choose from but I love HOBA's monthly project at the Literacy for Environmental Justice. Working with the youth interns in the Native Plant Nursery is a great opportunity to learn about plant propagation as well as the environmental issues of the Hunter's Point/Bayview neighborhood. The home-cooked BBQ is quite good too!
i love the Kaboom in daly city.  can't remember when it was, but i remember being sooo tired after
